]]> I’ll tell you my story, but you may be in the same situation having done something completely different, so keep reading…

One day, some time ago, I was very happily installing the WP-Security-Scan WordPress plugin, and I got an analysis result saying that I should change the default WordPress database table prefix in order to make harder the potential SQL Injection attacks…

So I went to the link and filled the new prefix in the screen that appeared…

After pressing the “Start Renaming” button, I got the following page:

Everything seemed to have been done perfectly…

But…… This is what I got after trying to go somewhere else in the administration panel:

The infamous “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” message…

From this point on, I could not access the administration panel anymore… So what could I do?

The problem seemed to be generated by the modification of the WordPress table prefix, so I went to phpMyAdmin to check the database… Everething seemed OK.. I checked the wp-config,php… The prefix had been updated… The site seemed to work flawlessly for normal visitors…

So I started searching… And finally found a site whose solution I’ll leave you below in a easier to use way…

Solution

If this problem was generated by a change to the WordPress database table prefix (done by the buggy WP-Security-Scan plugin, by a migration or by other means), you should fill the following two fields and press the “Generate” button to generate a SQL Query which you should execute in your database (using phpMyAdmin or other options)…

That’s all… If this didn’t work for you, it may be other kind of problem… In that case, take a look at the comments section of this post, since there are some people which found other solutions.

]]> Let’s say you’re searching for videos (or webpages if you wish) of some topic. And you navigate through lots and lots of them… Opening new tabs and even jumping between links without leaving the previous URL open somewhere else (this commonly happens when you click any “Related Video” on YouTube, since it automatically opens on the same tab)…

It would be really tedious to go through each of your tabs rescuing all the interesting URLs to save them…

Also, if you could save them as bookmarks (assuming you don’t care about the browsing history), it’s not really simple to just get the URLs to copy them or to send them to somebody else…

For this (and for any other case you could find), I developed the “List Open URLs” Firefox Add-on…

As you can imagine, its really simple to use…

You just click the Tools menu “List Open URLs” option and you’ll get a prompt asking whether or not you want to take into account the history of each of the tabs…

If you choose not to (“Cancel” button), then it will generate a listing including only the currently opened URLs…

But if you, instead, clicked “OK”, then you’d get a full listing, including the history of each tabs (the URLs in the “back” and “forward” buttons)…

Finally, if you want to copy the entire text, you can simply right click it and choose “Select All”…

And, after that, right click it again and choose “Copy”…

That’s all… You’ll have the text in your clipboard…

]]> You’re working… Windows tells you there are updates to be installed and you innocently say yes…

After some minutes you get the infamous message:

Updating your computer is almost complete. You must restart your computer for the updates to take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? Restart Now. Restart Later.

It doesn’t matter if you press “Restart Later”, it will reappear in some minutes to check if you changed your mind…

If you didn’t leave it running on the background, this would be the message:

WindowsUpdate_Complete

It’s all the same…

The solution is very simple, you just have to run the command “net stop wuauserv” from Start->Run or from a console. This will shutdown the Windows Update service ’till the next time the computer starts…

C:\>net stop wuauserv
The Automatic Updates service is stopping.
The Automatic Updates service was stopped successfully.

This is also useful if you want to get rid of the shield icon which tells you there are updates to be installed…

WindowsUpdate_Ready

If, for whatever reason (I don’t dare to ask), you want to re-start the Windows Update service in the current session, you can run “net start wuauserv“…

C:\>net start wuauserv
The Automatic Updates service is starting.
The Automatic Updates service was started successfully.

]]> 4 o’clock in the morning… You’re going late to bed… Suddenly, you remember you had to send someone a message with some important information he should have at 9 o’clock…

Of course you don’t want to wake up at 9:00… If you send the message at this moment, you’ll probably wake him up if he didn’t power off the phone (he deserves it! :))…

So what can you do? This tool is the answer…

You can simply fill the message data (Recipient, Body and Desired Time) and press “Schedule”… (Multiple recipients are allowed separating them with semicolons)

Then, you can just go to sleep and wait for the message to be delivered at the time you wanted…

If you regret, you can always uncheck the box to cancel the message… (If not already sent, of course)

The installation package is targeted for Windows Mobile 5. I haven’t tested it on other versions, but, at least recompiling, should work on others…

It requires the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed on the Pocket PC… If you don’t have it, you can simply download the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Redistributable and install it while having your Pocket PC connected to the computer with ActiveSync running (so it can get copied and installed into the device)…

The SMS Scheduller installer has to be run with the Pocket PC connected with ActiveSync running too…
